My neighbor is renting their 2 bedroom (800 sq ft house!) for 8 people and it's causing near nightly issues. They don't care about the house because it's a tear down, but the rest of our neighborhood is nice. The median price is $2.5M so this hous is very, very out of place. Isn't there some guidline or limits as to how many people are appropriate for a 2 bedroom? I don't want to be the lady who calls the police nightly but this situation is total BS.
Sorry to hear about your troubles Steph. What kind of issues are they creating and how long have they/will they be there? Do you have an option to reach out to the neighbor?
It's the usual: parties, loud drinking, general trash...Each rental is just for a few days. The listing says "no parties" but the renters had 40+ people at the house on 4th of July and last night there were 8 people playing drinking games on the patio next to my baby's room until midnight. The house owner asked us to call him with issues, but I don't feel like it's our responsibility to police his renters. We have 5 kids and are expecting twins - and we both work - so dealing with sleep issues and policing our street isn't reasonable for me to do. We live in the upscale suburbs for a reason. This guy has brought low class partiers to our door.
Would calling the police be an option where you are?
Is the rental even legal acc. to local regulations?
@Steph17, Sounds like this needs to be nipped immediately. You said the owner asked you to tell him if there are issues but its not your responsibility to police them, but it looks like you have no choice. It is just a matter of if the police or the owner (or both) will be the better solution for you-and that has to be your call based on the area and your relationship. Good luck. I know this is difficult, especially with kids and twins on the way.
Let us know how it works out.
Thinking outside the box, are you in a position to make him an offer on the House?
