Hi all,
A friend of mine made a booking to an airbnb appartment, with strict cancellations, in a few days in Paris.
He can't go there due to something unexpected, but as he already booked and paid, he wants me to go there instead.
I want to ask the owner if it's not a problem, but if he says no, well it's annoying. (he's the right to do it, correct?). I know I could probably lie and pretend to be him, but I'd rather not.
Any good suggestion? I think I'll just tell the owner and hope he agrees, but I would be happy to hear if anyone knows about it.
Thanks in advance,
Rémy
@Rémy9 this would count as a third party booking and so is against AirBnB rules, whatever the circumstances that caused it. If your friend can't go he will have to cancel.
Sad news for you both. The reservation agreement is between your friend and the Host.
The Host will be in breach of guidelines if they just accept you and you are not covered under contract.
Deception is unwise, especially as you have mentioned it here....... so that's definitely out.
If you or others did ever try such as switch and the Host realised that the person at the door was not the reserved guest you may not find yourself admitted to the premises.
All the emails and phone contacts are connected to your friend who made the booking, so that's just not a wise path to go down.
It's understandable that you both see it as a great idea, but you need to be honest with the host.
One way that you might facilitate your wish is to be up-front with the host, and have yourself entered on the original booking as a registered member of the party. You would be a named +one. and your friend can send an alteration request to the Host. You can only go and stay if it's all agreed. In Airbnb Safety rules there is a specific mention of not pretending to be "someone else"
Be honest with the host otherwise you might get bad Karma!
lol.

Ask the Host, up to them.
Remy, It is definately up to the host. And the reservation can be altered on the hosts side. In your favor you have 4 positive reviews. I would mention that and ask the host to read them. I think it can be done based on how you approach the host with your request and the nature of the host. But again the fact that you have already been positively reviewed should be a huge help. Just have your friend start the dialouge and steer the host to your reviews. From there you can talk to the host and see if they will accomodate you. I believe many people would under your circumstances.
what if there were two people on the reservation, and the main guest got seriously sick and can't make it anymore. The second guest is on the reservation. Can the second guest go ?
thanks
If the host agrees you can ask Airbnb to reallocate the booking to the second guests Airbnb account.
