Advise on deposits

Hello - I am rening a house for 3 days in France and they have sprung on me I have to pay 1000€ deposit. For 3 nights we are only payign 821€.  I am not happy about it  - It is too late for me to find somwhere else as I have 34 guests arriving from the UK and have rented 4 houses. 

Please advise - is this allowed ?

Does it say in the listing you need to pay for a deposit @Emma2627 

most deposits on Airbnb are done through the platform but airbnb allows some commercial STR management companies and large scale hosts to take a direct deposit 

if it doesn't state in the listing that there isn't a deposit they shouldn't be charging one.

have you called Airbnb to discuss ?

@Emma2627 if you do have to pay (ie it was in the. house rules) then make sure you do so via Airbnb resolution centre as hosts are not supposed to collect money off-platform
