After 24 stays I am about to write my first negative review but I want to be fair

After 24 stays I am about to write my first negative review but I want to be fair

This is a stand alone house but very close to neighbors.

First problem. The address didn’t make sense to the taxi driver. He dropped us where it should have been. The local contact doesn’t speak English but did find us and led us to the house.

I plan to suggest privately that the house make a map to share with guests.

Publicly I feel I should say it isn’t that easy to find and that renting a car or motorcycle would be a good idea.

We could never get a taxi to pick us up here so had to walk to the nearest hotel.

Second problem. There was no hot water. I texted the local contact. No response. I phoned him and he spoke rapid Spanish to me then hung up. We’ve been to Spain 4 times and Mexico many more but our Spanish is limited to a few words. I would have recognized goodbye at least. I ended up messaging the host and she said he would come by. I had a cold shower and we left for breakfast. The local contact wanted to know why we weren’t still at the house waiting for him 6 hours later. Other reviewers said he was helpful. I was using google translate for texts. I realize it is not the best but it was better than speaking on the phone. After it was supposed to be fixed and few messages with the host we left all of the taps in the house on full and got hot water in the bathrooms. Never did in the kitchen.

I don’t even know what to say. Something about him being helpful if you speak Spanish? I sent him 10 Spanish texts over the week and got 2 replies.

Third and worst problem. The house next door was rented to party types. We had two quiet nights then they partied from 2 am to 4 so loudly we could sing along with the songs even with the windows closed and the ac on in the bedroom. I didn’t even try the local contact. In the daytime I contacted the host and she said there had been problems with them for the previous guests. All they said in their review was”pretty quiet”. Other reviews and the description described the house as secluded and tranquil.

The host said she would contact the owner. Those neighbors left. We had one night of sleep. New neighbors came home at 3 am and started with loud music and voices. It is now 5:23 am and while it quieted to just conversation for a bit we’re back at high volume music.

Planned post “This is a great house for people who want to meet the neighbors and party all night.”

I spoke to the party people and asked if they could be quieter tonight as we leave the following morning. They seemed cool with it but I’m doubtful it will help.

Fourth. The house manual only said no smoking when we booked. After arrival it now says we are paying for utilities. I will take that up with AirBnb if we are charged.

Any advice would be appreciated. I will send a text to the host once daytime arrives but can’t see that it will help either. It’s a shame because we really needed a quiet break.

What a disappointing experience.

It's so upsetting when long awaited holidays don't go to plan.

It is such a shame that previous guests didn't leave honest reviews about the partying next door so you would have known not to book.

I would definitely mention the problems with the hot water and the lack of response from the co-host.

And of course the ongoing party noise from next door.  (not something your host can control, but definitely something other guests would want to know).

And suggest that it would be easier to find the place if the host provided a map as even the local taxi drivers couldn't find it.

Mark them down for communications and amenities.

@Sharon681  Also mark down for accuracy if they described it in their ad as "secluded and tranquil". (You don't say whether this place was in Spain or Mexico, or some other Spanish speaking country, but I can attest to the fact that "quiet" is a relative term in Mexico)

After 24 stays and never having to leave a bad review, you're obviously not a guest who complains about every little thing and I'm sure you'll be good at leaving a fair and accurate review which touches on all the ways this place wasn't okay.

Such a shame that you had a not-pleasant holiday stay, my sympathies.
