A guest had opened the back door gates and when they were leaving, one swung back into the car and dented it. They are asking if this is covered by Airbnb insurance. I just want to see if anybody knows what the process would be for this.
Should be covered by your home owner's insurance, don't you think? I think the Host Protection under Air BNB does not cover outside of the listing. So you need to file with your insurance.
I would put a claim in to Airbnb immediately the guest should pay for that and they can claim it on their insurance.
I would be very cautious about informing your insurer about this, as you may have invalidated your policy if you did not inform them about letting your property on Airbnb et al.
I would read the small print on your policy first forewarned is forearmed.

The first question is were the gates defective in some way? I am not clear from your post how this happened.
hey David
No, there's no defect. One usually has to hold the gate open when they leave. In this case, they didn't and the gate swung back into the car due to high winds.
Then it is there problem not yours, something for their auto insurance.
If they want to take the matter further just refer them to AirBnB.
