Airbnb Host kills Guest over Non-payment of Dues!

We often think about the risk involved in hosting strangers and ensure that we screen them well before accepting to host, but rarely do I carefully screen the hosts that I stay with when I travel. 

This shocking news came from Australia. The guest rented the place for 3 nights and then extended the stay for 3 nights. Due to the failure to pay for the extended nights while checking out, the host attacked and killed the guest. 

It appears like the extended night deal happened offline because if it was done via Airbnb, the non payment issue wouldn't have arised, right?

The host has now been jailed. Hopefully Airbnb has blocked his profile and listing. 

What steps would you take to ensure that your host is not a psycopath?
