Airbnb app will only install by calling my number and it can't.

My issue is a little different than those I've seen posted here - I can get the SMS and verify my number. My account phone number is verified (has been for years). 

BUT I recently switched phones (not numbers or carrier, just the actual phone)  I can't reinstall the app because the app insists on calling my number,  not sending an SMS, and Airbnb apparently cannot call my phone number, it can only text it. 

I know this because I removed my number and re-added it and tried to have it verify by calling - ABB says it can't call. But when I verify by SMS, I get t he code, it's fine. 

Anyone else having THAT issue? I prefer to use the app when I am traveling, though the site works on mobile browser OK it's not the same. 

As an aside, it's annoying - and dangerous - that I can't add a secondary phone number from Google Voice. When I travel abroad I don't have access to my US carrier number, only the GVoice number or a local number from a SIM I pick up in the airport. I get that Google Voice maybe shouldn't be the primary Airbnb number for me, but secondary? Why not?
