I have stayed in about 20 airbnb properties in several countries and up to now, have not had an issue with where I stayed.
I booked a property and the actual address is different than that listed, to the extent that instead of being in the middle of a desirable area, it is next to a low income housing project. I called airbnb support to see what could be done and whether I can cancel due to the misrepresentation.
Airbnb support is farmed out to India. The support consists of people who are trained to speak non-stop words that have no meaning and not actually try to help or understand your problem. They blather for minutes on end and I have to interrupt them. I finally asked one what was their primary instructions - he replied that their primary job was to preserve a reservation. Not to provide help, not to listen to the issues, not to make a decision, but to preserve the reservation. The way they do it is to actively encourage you to give up asking for help by not providing any help and wasting your time on the phone until you give up. The first 2 levels of support have no authority to make any decision - they are there to waste your time until you realize that they are playing you.
I report this to ask if this is consistent with other people's experience. I have decided to stop using Airbnb. I would rather stay in a hotel chain that wants my repeat business by providing customer support than a company that trains their support staff to be worthless. A pity - I have spent about $5k this year so far on Airbnb properties, and was planning to spend another $5k this year, so they are losing my $. I am very irritated at their treatment of me as a customer - I know when I am being conned.
@Warren94. Firstly, sorry you are having a bad experience with customer service.
I have received good service and they have helped in some tough situations. I mostly use the contact form to reach them. They contact me and have even called to make sure all is well.
So don't give up. If this is a recent issue, you should use the contact form and select the listing and also report again that the listing is not in the location described .
