Hello everyone,
I've been using Airbnb for a while but this one seems quite fishy:
I am looking for a long term rental in Bangkok, Thailand from July - October. After searching for a while, I found one in the perfect location for me, great.
The host has no reviews, and the listing is priced fairly cheap. I look back at the listing after 2-3 hours and random dates are booked off. I messaged the host and he/she gets me to add them on their LINE app to chat. They ask me what dates I want and told me the dates I wanted were available. They proceed to link me a separate listing of the same condo (the website is the actual airbnb website, I double checked). They asked what price I saw on the ORIGINAL listing, so I told them. (Mind you, this host has 2 accounts and 3 listings, of the same condo, with the same pictures. They say they have 3 units in this apartment).
If that wasn't fishy enough, they want me to book from June (today) to October. They said they will set the price as the total of July - October. I asked why, many times. They said if I pick July, there is a possibility that I can cancel the booking because that is what happened with their last customer. I explained to them if I canceled, I would lose the first 30 days I paid for and the service fee.
What are they trying to do here? How is this host manipulating the system to get my money? What is loophole here? Or are they just really that scared I will cancel the booking? Doesn't seem to make sense. Any insight is appreciated.
