Automated cancellation review

A host cancelled on me after asking for a very large cleaning fee after we had already confirmed our booking. He then cancelled when I explained that the cleaning fee raised the cost of the reservation outside of our budget. I was wondering when (or if) the automated cancellation review will appear on his listing. Does it appear immediately or only following the dates of our original reservation?

I would flag this host to Air (click on the little flag on his profile) as the cleaning fee must come before you book, not as an afterthought. How large is large?

Yes, the cancellation notice will appear, the host will also be given a fine (higher the closer to the booked date), a lower placement in search results and be excluded from the Superhost status for 12 months. Is it a new host? It seems silly to cancel given that the penalties for doing so are high.

How much was the fee?

The cleaning fee was $160 and the cost of booking was $125 for one night. (As a comparison, the highest cleaning fee that we could find for a similarly located and priced house was $60). He had instant book on and did not have a cleaning fee listed. The host did not have any reviews for this property, and so I assume it was new, however, they also have two other properites in the area.

Midwifery is a messy business... (I can't help you but I sympathise, so I thought a little joke could at least cheer you up).

The cleaning fee cannot be added after. It should not be a surprise! It is a really high cleaning fee, no wonder they didn't have it showing. I would definitely flag the host to Airbnb, so they can have a word on how to operate within the rules.

I hope you find a better listing soon!
