Champions League in Madrid (making hay while the sun shines)

A friend (in Madrid) has just given me the heads up of what's happening in Madrid following news of the Champions League final taking place there in June. It seems every man, woman and dog has listed their places (some of them real dives) on Airbnb for eye-wateringly high prices. Like God-awful rooms for €900. I'm assuming these places will disappear off the platform come the final whistle.

Isn't this a shot in the foot (or own goal even) for Airbnb bearing in mind a bad listing is brand-damaging?

Absolutely @Gordon0. But the Catch22 is that the bad reviews probably have to roll in before they are delisted. It doesn’t look like any new listings are scrutinised before they go live.

@Gordon0

Last night Radio 5 Live dedicated an hour phone-in to various issues related to both upcoming European finals in Madrid and Baku involving the 4 English teams.

I found one lady's complaint rather odd.

  She said she had an Airbnb room booked for 78 Euros in Madrid for this date, and the Host cancelled the day before, only for the room to re-appear half an hour later at 1,700 Euros for that night. -- She bad mouthed Airbnb for a few minutes and her point was reinforced by the BBC presenter and other callers.

However, I wondered how it was possible given the Cancellation penalties, including automatically blocked calendar.

I could only contemplate it might have been an Instant Book listing with the Host able to apply one of 3 permitted annual cancellations.

Since I don't do IB, I leave those who do to further comment.
