Charged twice

I made a reservation yesterday for June. I saw then that the double amount of money was blocked from my credit card. Why? And how can I call this company????

@Alexandru5

For unauthorised charges on your credit card your first port of call is your credit card company who will refund you the second amount while they investigate. Trying to get a refund from Airbnb will drive you crazy and it will take a long time.

Hello @Alexandru5 which company ?

Airbnb, they have a phone number or something? I would like to call and ask them what happened.

You can easily Google Airbnb customer service.

 @Alexandru5 : is it exactly the same amount, charged twice?

If it isn't exactly the same, but just very similar, it could possibly be the security deposit.  I would check back on the listing you selected, perhaps  they have a security deposit in place. In case they do, that could be the issue. In any case, that amount of money is not actively taken out of your credit card account , but has a "hold" on it. that could also be what you mean with "blocked" . Just an idea you might want to check on first. Good luck!

I don't  see a phone number for Romania, maybe type "contact Airbnb " here into the search function, and yiu'll find the extensive help manual by Deb and Dave: Contact Airbnb - A community help guide.

in any case, what seems to work best is to contact Airbnb on their twitter account @Airbnbhelp. Have your confirmTion number ready, they will answer within a few hours at last. Good luck!

@Alexandru5  When a guest sends a Reservation Request (using the Request to Book button), Airbnb places a temporary authorization hold on the credit card pending approval or rejection of the request from the host.  Depending on the card issuer, this may look like an actual charge.  If the host approves the request, then,  the authorization hold turns into an actual charge or is actually charged.  Sometimes the authorization and the actual charge appear as two transactions.

May guests interpret this as a double charge.  Again, depending on your card issuer, the authorization hold is voided in a few days resulting in one charge if the host accepts the reservation.  If the host does not accept the reservation, the authorization hold will be removed.

I too have been double charged for a booking and customer services has been far from helpful. I'm in the midst of disputing it now and I'm astonished by the ineptitude of this company. It's bordering on cover up to be honest.

I have provided evidence in the form of a screen shot of my bank statement showing the double charge and they still refuse to acknowledge fault.

Here is my advice to all;

firstly, if you haven't used airbnb before then don't! They will take your money and try and avoid culpability. However if you are in this situation then go to your bank and seek advice. They will provide you with a number for their fraud/disputed payment department. I'm hoping from here I'll get my money back.

Their customer service department is shockingly ill informed and unhelpful. Don't use this company! I'll post back when I have an outcome!

Hello

did you receive your money back coz they have double charged from me also

Tried to get an Airbnb for my vacation and for some reason it told me the card didn't go through however they charged my card twice, so $500 was taken out of my account. I called the customer service line and they told me 5-15 BUSINESS DAYS. It didnt even book the room now I am screwed for my vacation because their system had a glitch. Dont do it to yourself, never trying for an airbnb again.

More of the same from above here. I was charged "exactly" the same amount twice. I approached customer support about it, and they claimed I was only charged once, and shared a screenshot of the charges which proved absolutely nothing: 7 attempted transactions with either, "pending, declined, authorized, etc..."

With less than no assitance from their support team I disputed the charge with my CC provider due to the fact I have confirmed the second charge three times at this point. Within a week airbnb support fessed up to the second charge and said a "payment support specialist" are working to reverse this. Really, specialists..  Who was I speaking with prior to this super human specialist taking over?

This is clearly not a coinicedence, and the company has a history of this. Legal action must be taken in order to open accounting records, and add up the dollars that have no doubt been returned to customers who let this happen unnoticed.

More to come later...
