Just notified by the City of Lincoln that I cannot use more than 20% of my home as a short term rental.  Strange how the State Legislature just passed a law prohibiting cities/towns from refusing to allow homeowners to use their property as short term rentals...except the city of Lincoln!  How can Lincoln can discriminate against homeowners?  I turned my house into an Airbnb because long term renters trashed it repeatedly. I finally had a way to make money and keep my property well kept.  I will just rent out a bedroom.

They are not allowing you to use the home you live in as a short term rental? Or your rental home? And what is their reasoning?

That’s Lincoln for ya! I guess we need to band together and fight this as well as what’s likely coming around the pike. So frustrating! Since you’ve been around the block with your Airbnb’s, can you possibly answer a few questions regarding Lincoln’s Short Term Rental permit? If so, is it paid on a Jan-to-Jan basis, or every 360 days from the day it was initially issued? Also, on their inspections, are they requiring handicap accessible features, or things like: grab bars in showers, handrails on all steps, meeting certain codes re kitchen appliances with GFI breakers, etc? None have been hazards for our family living her for 30+ years, but I’m sure Lincoln will throw the book at us Airbnbs, every chance they can!
