Collecting damages outside of Airbnb

My renter damaged my home and hot tub.  We are working through the resolution center at the moment.  He is willing to pay for the damages, but the credit card attached to his reservation does not have a big enough limit to pay for the damage.  He would like to pay me outside of Airbnb with Wells Fargo Surepay.  I do not want to break any rules/policies Airbnb might have; I am a new host.  What do you advise?  The security deposit was $250.  I have not requested that payment from Airbnb yet,  Currently the damage has added to $1767 with 1 outstanding damage estimate yet to be received by me.  My guest has been informed that I am waiting for the information.  I do not want to close the resolution until all bills are known and we agree to the settlement.

Keep the info up to date and keep the convo going in the resolution center, this way if he flakes and doesn't pay on his own you can have a record of trying to resolve. Don't let the case close- simply keep sending new info in or the same summary (if Airbnb gets involved they'll make you repeat yourself over and over anyways).

I unfortunately had to go through a similar thing (am still going through it really). Thankfully the damages were much smaller but I spent an insane amount of time personally fixing the problems (BEWARE DON'T FIX, CLEAN OR DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR OWN TIME- YOU WILL NOT BE COMPENSATED FROM AIRBNB).

Hope it all works out favorably for you.

My inclination would be to get what you can as soon as you can, ABB to the extent they are interested would only go up to the deposit limit.

David
