Credit Card Charged - Fraudulant Booking - Airbnb not being responsive

Early Saturday morning got an email from Airbnb confirming my booking for a 14 night stay in China.

A minute after that got a text from my CC company showing my card was hit for $1379 Canadian.

Immediately logged into my Airbnb account and changed my password and then immediately got on the phone with them and explained that the booking was not me and that my account must have been compromised somehow. The booking was for a brand new listing (zero bookings / reviews) with a strict cancellation policy so no refund was issued to my card.

I have now called Airbnb a total of 5 times and each time they say "somebody will reach out to you within 24-48 hours". Obviously this has not happened and I still have not seen a refund on my card.

In my eyes this should be an open and shut case and I am a little perturbed that I have not heard from anybody.

Like most big companies quick to take the money and not so quick to give it back.

Anybody have any experience with a situation like this and any idea on what the resolution time was?

At this point I'm tempted to just call my credit card company and charge back the transaction.

Darryl

@Darryl53

yes, of course, you have to contact your CC company ASAP

unfortunately you are not the only one, I've seen the same posts and comments lately from other guests as well

This will be sorted with call to CC company and claim charge back.  I am sure you can document that you had no flights booked to travel to this listing or show alternative plans for the dates of the fraudulent booking.

Thanks.

I've opened a dispute with my cc company this morning.

Totally annoyed that AirBNB could not even be bothered to give me a call.

Silly me for giving them the benefit of the doubt when I should have just called the cc immediately.

I've used AirBNB exclusively for my business trips out west for the past couple of years but that is certainly going to change......
