I have a completely self-contained camper that I rent out beside the detached garage behind our house. It's got it's own driveway and a deck with a fence around it. I work full-time and my listing states that it has self-check in, so I send them an e-mail with all of the instructions and where the key is so they can let themselves in.
I had a guest from Japan without any reviews stay last night. I had come home early from work with a migraine and was sleeping (naked) with the master bedroom door open a few inches so the cats could come and go. I awoke to find the man standing in the doorway looking through the crack in the door at me sleeping. I was totally startled and thought maybe it was my boyfriend, so I got up and said his name, but he didn't answer. I looked out the door and saw the man standing in the dining room and I slammed the door and threw on some clothes. I went out and said, "What in the **** are you doing in my house?!", "Get out of my house!" and he didn't say anything. He was looking at his phone, and I went to the door and went outside and he followed me out. He said, "I can't find the key", even though the email clearly states where the key is located. I led him out to the camper, got the key from exactly where I said it should be, unlocked the door, handed him the key, and booked it back to the house to lock everything up and close all of the blinds. Ichecked my phone to make sure that he hadn't been trying to contact me to ask where the key was, but there were no messages or missed calls. I can't help but wonder how long he'd been in the house and watching me. I called my boyfriend crying, asking him just to come up to the house and meet the guy. I didn't see any point really in asking him to leave since the damage had already been done. He came and asked the guest if everything was ok, and the guest said yes, and we all went about our evenings. Apparently, our neighbor (who is used to seeing guests come and go) had also called him stating that the guy was lurking around the house suspiciously, looking in the windows and through my car. I guess I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt with a language barrier and no previous experience as an Airbnb guest, but aren't there just normal boundaries that should never be crossed? I've hosted hundreds and hundreds of guests and this has never been an issue before. How do I review this guy and do I report him or just leave it be?
