I own an apartment in a building in Athens, Greece. It is my family home, not short stay accommodation. In recent years, some apartments in the building have been turned into airbnb accommodation. Guests frequently make their way to the communal (for residents ONLY) terrace. Owners/Hosts use photos of the terrace (with unique views of the Acropolis) for their marketing, and encourage guests to enjoy the terrace and the amazing views afforded from there.
Airbnb guests have turned the terrace into a veritable pig sty - empty beer cans, broken wine bottles, food wrappers, discarded luggage, overturned furniture, broken furniture, plant pots that have been broken, the lock on the door leading to the terrace was ripped off yesterday and the metal door bent out of shape - we now need a new door! Today, a used diaper/nappy was left in the building lobby!!! Who does that? Owners/Hosts don't clean the common areas - they're only concerned with pretty pictures of their apartments.
How do I put an end to this? I do not currently reside in Greece and cannot locate the owners/hosts. I have been sent photos of the damage. Can I demand that airbnb take down the photos of the terrace? Guests have no right to be up there. In the meantime, a sign will have to be put up, in a number of languages, forbidding use of the terrace by non-residents.
