Developed illness from mold exposure

What would you do?  We stayed in a unit for 3.5 months and just checked out 2 days ago.  The last half of our stay I kept getting more and more sick and have been to the ER twice, once for severe headache and dizziness etc and the second time for numbness tingling metallic taste in mouth blurred vision and nasal drip and more.  All of these and more are common mold exposure.  The doctors ruled out any other type of infection but mentioned I have all the symptoms of mold exposure.

I’m trying to figure out my recourse here.  We had plumbing, electrical and infestation issues.  We were constantly interrupted by maintenance because they clearly were not ready to lease this building.  Work was being done in other units with no building permits.  I worked from the unit remotely so I spent full days and nights there and I have never been so sick.  We technically needed to stay in the area another few months but because of being so sick we had to move.  Do I have any recourse?  I believe the maintenance group just painted over mold making it look better.

What recourse have you taken to date?

I’ve made complaints about every issue.  I didn’t even think that it was making me sick until the last doctor pointed it out.   How was I supposed to know that all of the symptoms were tied to mold exposure?

The recourse you have if your listing is not as described and you have constant maintenance disruptions is to ask Airbnb to cancel penalty free and find alternative accommodation @Michelle3057

it seems strange that you chose to stay in a listing that you believe was making you so ill.

Hidden dangers of mold and toxicity.  How does one know that until symptoms come up and multiple medical visits are needed.  We elected not to renew and found  a different host and building.  But I also have $1500 in medical bills now from this.
I guess my recourse will be to call the health department or code compliance for the city and maybe they can go inspect the building.

@Michelle3057 If you stayed and didn't complain to Airbnb at the time then you cannot expect a refund. It is too late to complete your stay and then claim money back as this is the realm of scammers. Finally do leave an honest review but linking illness to your stay may be going too far as you have no proof of said linkage.

I’m not asking for a refund.  But I don’t want other people to get sick.  This building has 8 units and all are Airbnb’s.  Most of the tenants are short term.  I didn’t know the signs of mold exposure until the physician pointed it out to me.  So how would I have known while I was there?  I really thought it was something else but I wasn’t getting better.

But you also stated constant ongoing  maintenance issues so could have asked for a penalty free cancellation based on those @Michelle3057
