Here's an interesting bit of info:

I've been trying to order an Airbnb digital gift card for a week now. Every time, no matter which card I use, it gets declined. Calling my banks, they said the errors were all on Airbnb's side. After several CS conversations, CS was able to determine that digital gift cards aren't available to anyone. And it's been this way since August. But the company hasn't pulled the option to buy digital gift cards from either their website or app since then. I guess they felt wasting customers' time was an OK thing to do.

Not aware seen any announcement about it (allthough gift cards can only be bought/redeemed in the US)
