Do I loose super host status if guests request me to cancel a reservation?
Hi @Tanya12
Do have a look at the information on airbnb help centre to familiarise yourself with how host and guest cancellations work.
Why would you cancel a booking for a guest? As you know you will lose your superhost status and face financial penalties. Why is the guest asking you to cancel?
@Tanya12 Judging by the ding you've now got on your review page, yes. Call Airbnb CS if you need to dispute it.
As @Gordon0 say's, plus if they won't remove the cancellation review on your profile respond to it explaining what happened, the cancellation notice can kill a listing.
"The host canceled this reservation 88 days before arrival. This is an automated posting."
If ever there were a seed of doubt for the new would-be Airbnb guests or naysayers, this line is it.
This is a sneaky trick and I don't know why Airbnb even allows the guests to send a "request to cancel." NEVER fall for it! As other have said, call CS and ask them to review your messages with the guest and remove this cancelation from your record (you will loose superhost if they don't.) If this happens again in the future, tell the guest that the system will not allow the host to cancel and they must do so themselves. Or you could call Airbnb and ask them to cancel on the guest’s behalf so long as CS can clearly see that the guest wishes to cancel from the messages. But never, ever push that cancel button on your own.
@Emilia42 Yes, it is very sneaky, thankfully we discovered this forum before anyone had attempted to get a free cancellation this way, because if we hadn't, we would certainly have fallen for it, and never would have thought or realized that agreeing to the 'request to cancel' would penalize the hosts. I guess, really, forgetting anything and everything else..this alone shows the truth of airbnb's valuation of the hosts.
Thanks so much for your tips, Emilia!! Super super helpful!!!
