Hi there,
My name is Vanessa and I was hoping to get in-touch with a person or two so I could ask a few question about how to start as an Airb&b host. I understand the basic how to, such as registering and listing but I have other questions (ex. What does a super host do that a regular host doesn't? What types of things should I include to maximize ratings? Is my house even something that someone would rent or would writing out a welcome book and getting the information needed, not be worth it? )
I currently own a 5 bedroom home one of which is a nursey , I have a huge covered deck with a 12 person hot tub. A downstairs entertaining space with a huge screen TV, couches, pool table, foosball table, darts.... music system... ( great for families or even gentlemen on a fishing tour ) The master has a king bed and private bathroom... The other two rooms are upstairs with the master and have a queen... with a bathroom they can share. The nursery is also on the top floor. Then there is a second entertaining space for children... with gaming systems, toys, a huge TV and could also be another sleeping area... there is a mattress that someone could use. The only thing is my location, I live in Chilliwack and my house is a 25 Years old. Most of it has been updated except the bathrooms upstairs and the kids play are. The location however is down down Chilliwack lake road. Which I believe could be great if a group go guys were looking for a place to stay while on their fishing trip. I could potentially collaborate with some fishing tours? White water rafting is another popular attraction. Although my house is not water front, it is only a 10 minute walk to the river, a 10 minutes drive to Cultus Lake including the waterslides, and 25 minutes from Chilliwack lake.
My biggest question is whether or not my house has the potential for me to host. I have my own place outside of the house I own so it would be private accommodation.
This is very important to me because my husband recently passed away in April. I am only 29 years old and we just had a new baby in August. I also have a step-daughter and being that my husband was the main source of income -
If reading this post interests you please email me with your ideas and let me know if there are ways to maximize my houses potential.
Greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

Hi @Vanessa1108
Hope you are well and good on you for starting something new.
I am so sorry for your loss and wish you only love and happiness.
Your place sounds amazing-
1. No real difference between host and superhost expect for status and a tiny badge next to your name.
2. Amenities
Consider making it as homely and as self sustaining and explainable as possible. Realistically- think if I were visiting from abroad or from the next state what things would I love to have.
3. Note
until you get the hang of things
-stay off Instant booking
- only take reservations for t he first three months as to see if this actually for you.
- Create rules such as silent hours, no outside visitors, no parties etc
-research your local market and see how they are performing
-always keep a mindset of openness and “adjusting”
-Read the terms and conditions as to avoid any surprises.
if you do publish your listing here then maybe send a request for “improvements” overall the members here are very helpful and most of all “do you”- listen to your brain but consider your heart!
I really do wish you luck.

@Vanessa1108 hi Vanessa. It sounds like exactly the kind of house that would rent well on airbnb and also other platforms.
I would spend some time reading on this forum, and ask specific questions as they occur to you.
The process for listing is straightforward and step by step. You could make a listing and not make it live until you're sure.
Sorry for the difficult situation you find yourself in.
