Florida Suspends Airbnb Rentals for 2 Weeks from 3/27/20 (I think)

Governor DeSantis issued the following order today due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak:

“The concern is people in some of these hotspots wanting to then come here. Now is not really the time to do that. So the vacation rentals will be suspended for two weeks. If you’re in one now, then finish and go home,” DeSantis said. “But for any new rentals, there’s going to be a suspension on that. And we appreciate the assistance of people.”

That means that all rentals are suspended in Florida until April 10th, 2020 currently.

Can anyone @Airbnb explain why the governor has this order announced yesterday, yet we have nothing official from y’all about it, or how you’ll handle it? - Thanks!

@Brian1613  Airbnb suggests checking your local official guidelines and resources about restrictions during the pandemic. Airbnb is overwhelmed with cancelations, calls and working restrictions, they are understaffed in this crisis so they just can't lose time to check local laws in the entire world and inform about it daily. We have to do it by ourselves. It's logical.

Actually, they can, and have to, because they’re the ones that have to shut off bookings. They already have people who monitor everywhere that they do business. If they issue bookings in the middle of a shut-down, it breaks our US law. So thanks for the thought, but, both practically, and legally, they have to respond to United States government, and state government orders that suspend operations. It’s not up to us.

He seems to be focusing on the East coast, which, conveniently, aside from hosting more people from New York, also seems to be where the stronghold of voters who didn’t vote for him are located as well. We note that he had no problem with the beaches being open in Clearwater, which was still doing Airbnb biz through last week, and that the beaches in Daytona, and Jacksonville both remain busy, suggesting that they are also not being impacted equally.
