Guest booking and reducing nights

Guest booked for 5 nights in May ... then cancelled 3 of the nights .. is that (3 nights) subject to my strict cancellation policy?.
Just wondering what is suggested protocol on this.

Yea, I think some guests play tricks when they booking. If they originally book two nights not five, we host actually could select other better deals. So the host have to set up some limitations for partially cancel.
