So, my guest cancels her reservation on the night prior to her arrival (last night)
And today i get a notification that I should review. Is it a glitch? Should I just ignore it ,or what?
Hi @Amir24 .
no it''s not a glitch believe it or not. If a trip is cancelled within 24 hours of a stay being due to commence, both guest and host are offered the opportunity to review. This has been a big source of contention for hosts on occasion, as sometimes guests who are unhappy for whatever reason, leave a terrible review adn low stars, despite not acutally having stayed. Without knowing the circumstances around your guest cancellation, I'd be inclined to leave no review as a host, and hope that the guest did the same. If you do review, the guest will be sent an email telling them you've reviewed and prompting them to leave on of their own. Hope this helps.
Regards
@Amir24 I've never had a last-minute cancellation, so haven't had to deal with this, but if I did, I'd be inclined to message the guest saying something like " Hi XX, since cancellations within 24 hours of check-in receive notifications to review, but there really isn't anything to review each other on honestly, I'm planning to ignore writing a review (how could I possibly say if you left the place clean or followed House Rules?) and assume you will, as well."
I think sometimes guests who've cancelled last minute figure they're going to get a bad review for doing so, so they go ahead and write a bad review based on nothing.
And according to the new review guidelines, irrelevant reviews are subject to removal, so if the guest does go ahead and write a review, you can ask to have it removed, as she never showed up.
It is truly absurd, when Airbnb can see a guest cancellation before check-in time, to send out review notifications. After check-in time is a little trickier, as the guest could have arrived to find the place really dirty and immediately cancelled and Airbnb would just have the host's word versus the guest's as to whether they actually arrived or not.
“Guests cancelled booking 24 hours before arrival and did not stay”
