Guests left poop everywhere. we have a white carpet. How do I get them to pay for the cleaning?

There were puddles of breastmilk on the bed. Someone pissed in the shower and then didn;t run anyway water. How can I protect myself so I don't have to clean up so much human effluvia???

These people also showed up 8 hours early, tried to get in the room while the previous guests were still there, and brought a newborn (explicitly said no).

@Erica344  On this particular reservation, you could have protected yourself by turning the guests away at the door when they tried to get in 8 hours early and with an infant, which you had already said wasn't acceptable.

People who start off being disrespectful will continue to be so. You need to stand up for yourself and take firm and appropriate action with people like this.

Sorry you had such awful guests.

I was at work. I leave the key in an envelope and they just showed up and were inhuman.

@Erica344  I wasn't blaming you for anything, just suggesting how to ward off bad behavior. You were at work when the guests showed up 8 hours early and disturbed the guests who were staying in the unit, but were you still at work 8 hours later when it was actually time for them to check in?  At what point were you made aware that they had showed up with an infant and barged in?

University adjunct, so I go from uni to uni during the day. I figured the humans would show up after 3, so when I got there around 1 to change the sheets, vacuum, wash the bathroom, etc etc I was a little disturbed to find them already in the room. My flatmate was home, but was ill in his room.  It's been rough.

@Erica344  Yes, it's a rough situation. I've never been in the position myself of having to kick out guests, but I've read enough posts here on the forum from hosts who have, or those who didn't and regretted it , to say that if this had happened to me, I would have told the guests, when arriving to find them already ensconced in the room hours before check-in time and with an infant who they had been told wasn't allowed, professionally, non-emotionally, and firmly, that they would need to leave, as they had broken the terms of the reservation. I wouldn't find it easy, my heart would probably be pounding, but I just know that guests who start out like this never turn out to be good guests.

yeah, probably should have. It was such a cute kid, though it turned out to be a literal defecation machine. I've changed my settings to allow ONLY those people that have a previous rec from another host.

@Erica344  Yeah, newborns poop constantly. Not their fault. But the parents allowing poop to get all over everything is inexusable. If they can't manage to deal with a tiny baby responsibly, I dread to think what kind of guests they're going to be when the kid is a rambuctious toddler, curious and prone to getting into everything, drawing on whatever surface with a indelible pen, etc.

Hope you leave an honst review to warn other hosts.

@Erica344

"I leave the key in an envelope" ?

Maybe not the best strategy, because you now see what can happen...

It had worked the last 50 times.   😞

@Erica344  Take photos and ask for reimbursement, but realize that they probably won't pay and airbnb probably won't make them pay.

I'm sure Airbnb will cover the expenses?

What is the Airbnb Host Guarantee?

The Airbnb Host Guarantee provides protection for up to $1,000,000 to a host for damages to covered property in the rare event of guest damages above the security deposit or if no security deposit is in place.         MAKE A CLAIM!

@Mark1357  The Airbnb host guarantee is a joke. Certainly this OP can make a claim, but the chances of her collecting on it may be slim at best.

Taking a look at your listing, I see that you have wonderful reviews from what seem to be happy, appreciative guests, likely not the type to cause damage. I get the same. So it's possible that you've never had to make a claim, nor have I, but I've read enough posts on the topic here to know never to count on Airbnb to have my back.

If you actually think the Host Guarantee will cover you in the event of damages, I suggest you spend a few days searching these forums with keywords to read about other host's experiences with claims.

oh my gosh, @Mark1357. Please keep digging around on this forum to find out the real truth behind the host guarantee.

Wouldn't the security deposit cover such a thing? I am brand new to this but seem to recall checking the box where I require a $100 deposit then have some period of time to make a claim. I'm so sorry this happened to you. How HORRIBLE. Karma's a bitch though. Don't forget to leave an honest review of them!
