Host asking for damages i am not responsible for

Hello,

I was staying in a vacation rental home near Lake George during the Memorial day weekend.

The host already had a broken futon frame and which i only realized after i was making our 10 months old son sleep on it. i sat on it and it was shaky and then decided to not even look at it for the rest of my trip. The only mistake from my side is that i forgot to tell the host about it as i was too busy spending time with my friends. plus most part of my trip i was out of the house.

now the host asks me to pay for the damages done to the futon. I am not sure what damage i am to pay for.

help please.

The host needs to open a Resolution Center request for the funds.  If they haven't yet, ask them to do so to go through proper channels.  You can then deny the charges and work with Airbnb and the host to resolve this.  Make sure all your correspondence with the host from here on out is via the Airbnb messaging center and reiterate any conversations you may have had outside the platform immediately on the platform.  Keep it professional and cordial.  The host is as upset about the futon as you are being accused of breaking it.

Thank you for your suggestion. I shall make sure that I also follow proper channel.

Initislly the host asked me to pay $500 for a futon. I can say for sure that it was not a $500 material. And now this morning again it was reduced to $300.

I can clearly say that something is wrong here. However being patient.
