Host versus guest cancelation

I asked a guest if they could change their reservation dates, and they couldn't, so I kept the booking despite hesitation on my end about my ability to host on the originally scheduled dates. Knowing this, my guests found another place to stay for those dates and are willing to cancel the booking, but they say they don't have the ability to do so because I initiated the process. I'm worried about the negative repercussions of canceling a reservation on my end and would love for them to cancel on their end. I will gladly refund them any fees and offer then a discount on a future trip. Can anybody help me and advise on how they can cancel from their end?

They just hit the cancel button on their reservation.
