How do I get my money back and report a host?

Hi,

I booked an AirBNB about 6 months ago. Straight after the booking was made, the host contacted me and said that the room wasn't available (and never should have been), and that she will arrange a refund. 6 months later and I am still trying to get said refund.

I have just had a notification saying my next payment is due tomorrow - do I cancel room and then contact airbnb for my service fee back? (I will not recieve this in the cancellation refund). Do I cancel and then report the host?

Or do I wait and try to contact Airbnb? I am scared that if I cancel the room this late, that I am unlikely to get the service fee back.

Help!

Did you receive confirmation that the booking was cancelled by the host @Stacey245 ?

Why did you wait six months to chase for the refund?

Do not cancel you will incur penalties.

Call Airbnb now and explain your situation, they will be able to see on airbnb messaging that the host said the listing wasn't available six months ago.

@Stacey245  While it is certainly up to the host to cancel the reservation if it's a host issue (not available when it shows that it is), since the host notified you straight away, why didn't you immediately cancel, as guests can cancel up to 48 hours after booking with a full refund?

I would suggest you spend some time reading through all the Help articles for guests on the Airbnb site, so you understand how everything works if you are going to use Airbnb in the future.
