I just add it to the cleaning fee.

Hello - you could just add it to your nightly charge.  Best regards, Roger

My county that provides me with the permit told me not to add the taxes to the airbnb price - I was told to collect the taxes at check-in, which I do. The rationale was if I included the taxes in my rate I'd be paying tax on the tax. ..... Kathleen

How do you add it onto the cleaning fee? The tax would change with every reservation wouldn't it? I am having the same problem as it says in the state law that it must be a separate line item and after working with the tax commission I was also told that if it is added onto the nightly price you are liable for "paying taxes on taxes". With multiple listings this can be a quite significant sum at the end of the year. I have implored Airbnb to no avail to please add a separate line item for tax. It would make it so much more simple for the host and the guests. Almost every state has a hotel or lodging tax in addition to required sells tax. At this point my only choice is to add it as an alteration request and that process with Airbnb is horrible. Once you send the alteration request they disappear into Neverland and there is no way to tell whether they have been paid or not and you will see no record of it in your messages. It leaves the people that are doing clean accounting a total nightmare!
