How do you keep track of towels, linens and housewares

Does anyone use an inventory spreadsheet to keep track of towels, bedding, silverware, glassware, dinnerware and other items you provide guests to use during their stay? I have noticed I am constantly buying these items as they go missing frequently. How do I keep track of what's in the unit when guest checks in and what is missing when guest checks out? Who should be accountable for this? I started airbnb a few months ago and learning lessons the hard way...or the expensive way. I am done!! ANy shortcuts or words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

@Lisa6521if you feel you need to do that then just do. Your listings are luxurious and upscale so I assume your towels, bedding, silverware... are also nice and expensive. Maybe it would help if you would replace it with some "ordinary" silverware and plain white towels and sheets so the guests are not tempted to take a souvenir and you could easily replace them.

Wild guess - maybe your guests take towels, cushions, glasses... to the pool and then just forget to bring them back. Or maybe they hang towels on the balcony and the wind blows them away?

We are hosting for 6 years, I don't count towels and assume if some is missing then the guest probably stained it and throw it away but it happens rarely. A glass or a spoon is missing sometimes but nobody ever took any bedding or sheets. But, it's just IKEA stuff, nothing worth stealing.
