Hi Everyone,
Can you please tell me how Airbnb knows you have checked in and to give the funds to the host?
The reason I am asking is because I want to make a very expensive booking. $6000 is a lot of money to me. The problem is in some of the listings I have actually seen the same houses photos in multiple listings with different hosts which makes me question the authenticity of some of these listings. How can I be sure that if they are fake that they won't get any of the money? If they don't get any of the money then why would they bother with the fake listings?
Another issue is if it is fake I won't be able to afford to book somewhere else until I got my refund and would this take some time to process?
Thanks for your help with clarifying things

Hi @Jacinta0, this is a good questionfrom a new user about a large payment. Airbnb releases pays due using an automated system. Its set to forward the money to your host 24 hours after your scheduled checkin. If the booking is still in place the payment goes ahead.
The 24 period is to allow you to arrive view and inspect the accomodation and even have your first night before paying the host. So if you arrive and theres a problem you must notify to halt the payment. If booking a long stay you payments will be released in one month at a time.
Some hosts do have multiple listings so cross checking against reviews is another way to chec.

If you are booking a long stay of over a month, your money wijll
Because if you showed up and the listing was fake you would contact Airbnb immediately right? The money isn't released for 24 hrs. And then Airbnb would work out lodgings and such with you. They wouldn't leave you hanging. And you might want make sure the hosts have previous reviews to avoid a situation like that occuring. And if you are convinced you have seen the same place listed by multiple hosts you should report it to Airbnb. They do want problems brought to their attention. Hope this helps.

Hi @Jacinta0,
I'd get in touch with the host. Mention you saw these pics on a few listings, that you're excited about staying but was hoping for a bit more specific info.
I've had guests ask very specific questions, and I was happy to take a measurement or add and extra photo (if I felt that it was legitamitly unclear in my listing). Their response will likely be telling.
Happy Hunting!
Taryn
Thank you everyone 🙂
