I am a new host in Fremont, CA. How to collect Transient Occupancy Tax? thanks.

I am both an airbnb traveler and host. I recently booked a place in CA. The booking specifically and very clearly said that TOT was going to be collected via PAYPAL before check in instructions can be given. (TOT was billed separately from Airbnb)

I booked my palce (this coming June) and the host texted me the TOT fee amount right away. Luckily I already have a paypal account so it was an easy payment on my part.

@Glenna0When I booked the place, it was texted the amount after the booking. I am not sure how she came up to that amount. I guess you can help your future guests how to calculate it by giving them the formula. e.g. A x B = C where A is the airbnb rental fee, B is the TOT rate and C is the amount you will bill them.
