I was scammed by this Airbnb Host, the story is long so please bear with me. I have checked in early into this place in Edinburgh on 6th September 2022, the posting pictures look good but omg the apartment block itself is sketchy af. There's someone that look like a druggie that keep knocking on our door, we couldn't take it so we contacted the host and she was happy with a full refund upon cancellation, Airbnb support approved this as well. Just after I have finished my trip in UK, when I was checking my mailbox, I saw this email of Airbnb which was sent on 13th September 2022 where the host has filled for a damage property report and asking for an reimbursement of the same exact amount of the rent.
I am so mad because the host didn't even put a picture of the thing that got stolen, instead she just use her advertisement picture and circle out the stuff I have apparently stolen. I have contacted Airbnb on this but yet to get a conclusion. I'm so annoyed at this host as she failed to disclose the condition of the property at her first place, and then trying to make us pay for her missing items which we did not steal. Not to mention that she only filled it 7 days after we have checked out of the property. A lot of stuff can happen in 7 days, her other guests could have steal it, her neighbor could have steal them, the constructions worker could have break into her property through her window and steal her stuff.
We then went on a trip with a tour agent on 7th September 2022 at 9am which is impossible for us to bring alone the stuff that she claimed that we have stolen. I honestly have no idea what I can do now.
@Helen744 I didn't mentioned it to the host because we keep shouting that the person you're looking for is not in this flat. After awhile we heard door opening noises and we suspected he went into the opposite flat.
Now may be the time to mention it as you used this as one reason to leave and he may have had no right to be there.H
@Helen744 I'm not sure if he really has no right to be there because the main door of the apartment is not locked at all, anyone could gain entry and it might have been other neighbors' guest. We were afraid because he kept knocking and wouldn't leave when we told him the person he looking for is not in this unit. We only left the place once that we saw he's not in front of the door anymore. When I returned like 5 mins later (was putting the keys back to the lockbox) to double check if they door is locked no one was around the common areas as well.
It's been awhile but there were no updates from Airbnb and the listing has more reviews that support what I have claimed.
It's strange because Superhosts with excellent track records keep getting suspended by Airbnb with no no explanation, and yet Airbnb will do nothing about a listing like this...
So finally, Airbnb has come to a conclusion, but nothing was done to the host's listing... and it seems like they are still accusing me of stealing stuff from her property but not asking me to pay. I'm not very happy with this decision especially no actions were taken to the host's behavior.
@Yi-Ting5 I wouldn't worry now. The last few paragraphs seem to be standard wording that they attach to all cases. At least they are not chasing you anymore for the articles alleged to have gone missing
Well, it's annoying for sure, but I'm glad to hear they are no longer pursuing you for the money.
