We have a property that contains 2 houses, we rent one out and the other we live in . We have decided to take 1 month off during peak season and would like to rent the two houses. Is it better to list them separate for the month we rent both? or make one listing for the 2 houses expecting that a large family or group will rent both?

Simply do 3 listings; one for each house and a 3rd one for the 2 houses together.
you will see what is most popular and as soon as you have a booking for that period, block your calendar adequately for the other listing
