Looking to get the Condo board/HOA on my side!

I have had a fantastic expirence as a host on Airbnb, and now that my first expirence is coming to an end, I have realized I have caught the hosting bug!

One opportunity I have seen here in Edmonton is condos. Right now the rental market is in the dumps and Condo prices are at all time lows, so many owners find themselves owning condos they cant sell, and they are losing $300-400 a month when they rent it.

My idea is to help out by offering a premium rent in exchange for a 5 year lease (typical terms/exit clauses, yadda yadda...). They get thier costs covered, I get another place to host 🙂

The idea however hinges on pitching this to the condo association/HOA. Typically there is some pre-conceived notions and fears many boards have, so I want to mitigate those fears.

I was curious what others have done to help get board members on thier side? Note that I would be approaching the board BEFORE signing a lease.

I received the dreaded courtesy letter from my HOA today. It has been a great run for me since May. Not sure if anyone has any experience with fighting their HOA or getting them to change and get on our side. I just want to continue hosting. I enjoy it and believe that the idea behind Airbnb is strong. I set pretty strict rules and have received no complaints that I am aware of.  Any comments?

Unfortunately the type of people on HOA boards are not open minded.   Their job is to be petty and make your life miserable.  The best plan is to buy property outside of an HOA.  When you buy into an HOA you are letting the HOA dictate your property rights.
