I have two rooms in my home in Georgia on AirBnb. Two of my guests are in the military, and expectations/dates fluctuate from what's expected sometimes. So during the month of July, both of them had to shorten their stay significantly. Their stays started in June and carried into July. Their Airbnb payments were transferred to me in June, but their refunds will come out of my July transactions.
I have to pay local taxes each month, and because the refunds were so significant, I'm not sure whether to report my actual income for June (deducting their refunds from the income), or just report all the June income unchanged or unrefunded, and then show significantly less income in July. I think it would be complicated to report the refunds in the June transactions, but at the same time, I'm not sure I'll have enough income in July to actually show any income for that month.
Is any of this making any sense?
