Mpesa (Mobile money) payment system for Africa.

Mobile money is a big thing in Africa and in my case Kenya. Our annual transaction last year was equivalent to half of our GDP and the service is very wide spread and reliable. I think Airbnb will really benefit by adding these payment options e.g Mpesa which is widely used in Africa. In Kenya, Mpesa has 19 Million active monthly users, 1,200 transaactions every second transacting USD 36B annually.

I agree 100%. It's quick, easy and safe.

But such companies (those not from East Africa) are very rigid when it comes to technology. They are unable to embrace technology from these parts of the world. I have tried to bring this up a number of times through their social media pages but no response. Now that Zuckerberg has mentioned it somewhere, perhaps they can 'discover' this easy method and hook us up with MPESA.

Until then, we suffer.

Well, this is problem not only for Africa. In the Eastern part of the Europe it also exists. Why all of the big companies take care only about Americans and their interests only in the US? I have a business in Eastern Europe and there are a lot of problems for me. Because not anyone there uses Western payment systems. Even more, there are a lot of countries which doesn't use it at all. I had a few problems before one of my friends recommended me Ecopayz. I read this https://baxity.com/payment-systems/about-ecopayz and understood that it's the stuff that I need. It's good for my business.

I wish there were instant mobile payment systems that were global. This is for ease of doing business or taking care of personal matters.

It's always great to see Africa progressing and having different ways of payment. After all it's an emerging continent.

Africa has been getting up lately, and it's definitely emerging. I'm not sure if Mpesa though can be as productive as other forms of payments that are way more contemporary . Take for example https://maxpay.com/ who has all sorts of wallets and crypto coins. So for all African countries this could be beneficial in so many ways. There is a huge number of young people using online products, so businesses could benefit from the local buying power by making it much easier for them. Maybe in the future Maxpay will be the new norm.

I adore PayFast, PayPal and it's the payment gateway here at (https://www.subscriptionflow.com/recurring-payments-with-paypal/). We use on the majority of our ecommerce domains (we have about 30 of them here), but don't mistake its adoption of Bitcoin as having any significance to Africa as a gap. South Africa has a thriving ecommerce business, and BitX (local exchange) handles 3 BTC - 30 BTC in volume on a daily basis (average is around 10 BTC a day). That's pretty much it for Africa.
