My guests stole my internet router....

I noticed my hair dryer missing and went to report it, when I noticed I couldn't connect to WiFi. It turns out that the guests had taken my old Verzion modem (not in use) and my Xfinity modem (definitely in use). I'm pretty bummed because I had guests check in today, and they did comment on the WiFi. I don't really know what to do in this situation. I apologized and explained that; one will arrive tomorrow, but once I noticed it was basically check-in time. Sad panda. 😞

What a weird few items to steal, @Cheryl389. Hairdryer? Possibly. But modems...bizarre. Have you been in contact with Airbnb, assuming you want to report the theft?

I reported the hairdryer through the resolutions center, and the fact that the items were missing was reflected in my rating and review of him. He did message me out of the blue last evening because he didn't want a bad review even though I said nothing to imply what I may say or not say. I was definitely fair with my review given the situation and kept it vague, but I do think hosts should know some items were missing. Whether accidental or intentional, it caused a really big headache.

@Cheryl389  He messaged you out of the blue to say he didn't want a bad review, in spite of stealing from you?  That's bizarre. What kind of review did he think he could possibly get for being a thief? What did he say?

“Ok... I tried to contacted you since, one of my crew members, took the hairdryer by mistake thinking that’s is from someone of us. I can pass by dropping off the hair drier tomorrow by noon. I don’t know what your review about me says, but just take your drier back and fix the review in case you had posted a bad one about me. Let me know if you can take the hair drier by this time. Thanks. ”

I basically said no I already had to replace it, and told him to refer to the resolution center request.

@Cheryl389  Sounds like he just assumed he'd get away with it and claimed it was an accident when he saw the resolution center request. Or he questioned the rest of his group when he saw the request and someone did say they took it. But I don't know why you only put in a claim for the dryer, not the modems? Did one of his "crew members" accidentally unplug and pack 2 modems? I don't think so.

One modem wasn’t in use so I wasn’t going to replace it. I lucked out with ordering the replacement modem because the company gave it to me for free, which is nice because it usually costs $180 including shipping.

@Cheryl389 I would highly recommend that when you replace this router that you place it under lock and key. No guest should be able to physically touch your router.

With a router in hand, you can:

• change the password

• install tracking software

• install keystroke software

• etc.

For both your and your future guests' safety, find some way to keep that router away from guests.

The hairdryer? Way too weird.

Yup everything is getting locked up. I have to find myself those things hotels have so you can’t remove the hair dryer too.

@Cheryl389, I feel like you are being so nonchalant about this. This guest STOLE from you! This is different than "accidently" packing a towel or spoon into one's suitcase. This person unplugged a tangle of wires and walked out with a essential/expensive piece of equipment.

Write him a horrible review, report his profile, and call Airbnb suggesting that this guest be removed from the platform.
