Payment via PayPal/Sofort Überweisung in Germany

I've recently booked a place in Germany using a credit card (I don't have one myself so I had to borrow it from someone). The problem is that I'm renting it long-term and would like to make subsequent monthly payments using my own PayPal. The problem is that I neither see PayPal nor Sofort Überweisung as a payment option (the latter is specifically mentioned as a payment option for Germany. Interestingly, a friend of mine is also renting long-term via AirBnB, and he sees PayPal in his list of payment options. Is this something which the host has to allow? What's going on?
