Permits and local laws in Boston and other cities

Hi, I'm a new host and am wondering how strictly the local laws and permitting requirements are in Boston and other cities? I am going to sign up for them but was wondering if I could start hosting before then? Thanks!

boston city counsel just voted today and won by a majority lead to approve Mayor Walsh restrictions on short term rental.
