Photo content not the hosts property

Should a host be allowed to include content of a neighbors property in their advertising ..

@Joyce246  It's a personal friend, but you can't talk to them about it? Instead you report them to Airbnb? You have a strange idea of friendship, IMO.

I just felt it would be easier to approach it on a neutral basis and also thought that Airbnb would monitor this a little more closely so that others may not have to travel this path ..

Advertising material I feel should be strictly monitored ..

NO OWNERSHIP

NO PERMISSION

NO GO ..

not forgetting it’s for financial gain ..

@Joyce246  Not speaking face-to-face with a neighbor who you call a "friend" about your concerns, and instead contacting Airbnb in the hopes that Airbnb would instruct them to remove the photos isn't what I would consider to be a "neutral approach", it's what I would call a passive-aggressive approach and would acheive the opposite of what you are wanting to happen.

I wouldn't consider anyone who did that to me, not straightforward enough to approach me with their concerns, to be a friend, or someone I'd want anything to do with.

Thanks for your comments Sarah ..

@Joyce246 If the photos are still included in the listings you've shared, above, I really don't know what all the fuss is about.

Thanks for your opinion on this Gordon ..

Apprecite it ..

@Joyce246   The way you described it in your original post, you made it sound like the photos looked down into your backyard and were very privacy-invasive. But looking at the listing photos, like @Gordon0,  I also don't understand what the big deal is. It's just a photo of the view across the field, full of cows, to the sea. If there were photos of your family having a barbeque in your back yard, that would be invasive and worth making a fuss about, but not what appears on these listings.

If hosts weren't allowed to post photos of the view from their guest quarters, simply because it looked out across a property which didn't belong to them, or photos of the local area, i.e. the main street with all the shops, virtually none of the listings on the platform would be able to show the view, unless they were lucky enough to own all the land around them for acres in every direction.

Which happens to be my backyard!!!

no matter what size it is ..

and our cattle ..

and yes that upsets

me as our assets are not for others an the public’s benefits ..

we pay a lot to maintain it and costs hours of personal time ..

not with the intention for others to benefit

if the space was loaded up with rubbish an junk it wouldn’t be photographed for their publicity purposes ..

I feel this is disrespectful towards us ..

and if I don’t want my space in the public arena then it shouldn’t be ..

if I want it there then I can do that myself !

Whats the answer???

Move the cattle and plant trees ..

I didn’t think I was being unreasonable ..

As Photography is my hobby

unless it’s public space I would ask the owners for permission and particularly if I was intended to financially benefit from that image ..

But that is the way I function ..

These people don’t contribute to the financial upkeep but are happy to use it for their financial gain !!!

@Joyce246  It's a photo of the view out their window. If you don't wish for anyone to be able to see your property, I guess you need to build a 15 foot high wall all down your property line.

I see absolutely nothing disrespectful towards you in this. Most listings have view photos and the view is not all the host's property.

Sarah

the Main Street and all the shops ..

really that example is more of a public one ..

as the Main Street is public

the shops I hear you

BUT

No my RESTAURANT and MOTEL

isnt advertised .. on these sites- the leased portion of the property ..

which I just happen to be the tenant !!!

That I would find more appropriate as a business person ..

BUT NOPE NOT A WORD ABOUT THAT ..!!

A lovely RESTAURANT serving

FANTASTIC FOOD and

LICENSED .. with

SPECTACULAR OCEAN VIEWS

OVERLOOKING THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD AND BASS STRAIGHT !!!

what more can you ask for .. !!

Home cooked food.. real food that tastes great .. made to order .. and competitive with what you pay in town ..

To advertise that I would find more appropriate and acceptable .!!

@Joyce246  You own private beaches, 2 boats, couple of hills, a village and your husband is riding the bike??? Im sure it is a lot of fun to have you guys as friends and neighbours, nice!!!

Otherwise I have to agree with @Sarah977 and @Gordon0

Public space I don’t mind and didn’t question .. I didn’t say it was wrong to use those types of photos .. but ..

the cows are not on the street ..

But which photos do I have up that you think are out of line and intrusive ..

And who’s on a bike ..

direct me to what you are talking about

and thanks for your comment..

@Joyce246  Do you own the hillsides in the photos on your listings? The farms on the hillsides in the distance? I think this is the point @Giedre-and-Andre0 were making.

Everything shown in your photos I doubt is your personal property.

Just for everyone piece of mind I have deleted some photos and if there is anything amongst what is still there that is perceived as controversial or intrusive please let me know .

Thanks all for your time ..

Got rid of the bike picture

it was a bad picture anyway ..

thanks for bringing that to my attention ..
