It's a sublet I've found in Portland, OR. The user is brand new, only verified phone number, no reviews etc. The photos looks to be generic and found from the net instead of real pics. I highly doubt it's a genuine listing.
Can anyone look into it before I spend my money?
@Kerim1 you can always use reverse photo search by taking screenshots of the photos and uploading them, you will be able to see where else they are being possibly used. If you are not sure better search for a checked place, it is easier than being in doubt the whole time until check in.
Send the host a message using the "contact host" button and see what happens. It may not be a fake listing, just someone new who has not got the pricing right, too high discounts etc.
It is just a room in someone's home so the price would be reasonable in any case and this one is trying to get established in the market. One way of doing so is to offer low prices.
@Kerim1 it doesn't look fake to me, just new. The price doesn't seem out of line for a new listing room in a shared house in that neighborhood. I agree with @Marit-Anne0. Make sure you pay only via Airbnb-- as long as you do the host won't get paid until after you check in so can't scam you with a fake.
I'm in agreement with @Lisa723 that it's a new listing, rather than a fake.
I'd be pretty certain that the rate is so low because the host is completely unaware that Airbnb is applying a 20% Special Offer discount, on top of a 49% monthly discount (it's ridiculously easy for hosts to be caught out with this - even more seasoned hosts get bamboozled by the way the discounts are applied concurrently)
Probably best to just send the host a message and ask her to confirm the correct price. Chances are, she'll be extremely grateful that you've alerted her to the fact that both those whopping discounts are showing on her listing at once!
@Kerim1, this listing does not look fake to me; Just a new host who is pricing her space at the recommendation of Airbnb. Airbnb wants all listings to be this low! Even 4 bedroom entire homes.
.
Your $242 per month isn't the best offer yet. When I tried it the price is at $193 per month.
This price is so cheap that even the airbnb software can't believe it and reports an error.
I didn't fill in any dates by the way, seems to be a new auto fill in function.
So my 242 was in USD. I just tried it in Euro, and I got €215. Still a long way from your €193! Are Airbnb giving you special treatment or something?? ;))
.
I really don't know. All I know is that the airbnb auto date fill in function decided that I should stay for a period of 3 months. As it looks, the montly rate goes down the longer I stay. I did a quick calculation and found out: If I stay for 26 months the montly rate would be down to zero $.
Every day there is something new to discover on airbnb.
Lol! Zero $ for 26 months! Now that's an Airbnb bargain! 🙂
I'm still trying to figure out how you got €193, and I got €215 for the same listing, with the same dates though. Any logical explanation you can think of? Thats a pretty big difference on a small amount..
.
No, I have no logical explanation
But I just realised that I mixed up € and $ and I have an explanation for that: I just had 4 cuba libre and I'm working on No 5. I think I'd better go to bed now.
Good night.
@Ute42 I have a friend in construction. He went to a building supply yard, asked if he would get a discount the more lumber he bought and was told yes. He said "Okay, just keep loading the truck until it's free."
