Pre-approval Taken more Seriously

I understand how to pre-approve; what I want to know is how I can check out who is staying in our home more than just a few pieces of identification that AirBnB might have gotten.  I rent a luxury home seasonally, if I punch the pre-appoval button, than I have accepted this guest.  Is it possible to send a form first for more information.  I understand there is an area for me to ask for a short term lease (my minimum stay is 3 months).  What if I pre-approve and find out guests have a criminal record?  Am I even able to ask before I pre-approve, or do I pre-approve then ask?  I guess...what are you allowed to ask before you let guests stay in your home?
