The sub-categories are not included in the superhost calculations - just the Overall Rating scores. So the host may have had a majority of 5* Overall Scores, but have been marked down somewhat in the various subcategories.

Also, a host needs to have had 10 guests stays over a 12 month period to qualify for SH status - although those could be 10 single 1-night stays, one after the other, so technically, it's possible to become a superhost after only hosting for less than a fortnight (and many do, which in itself, makes a mockery of the entire system)

Tip from a 10 year Airbnb veteran - stay chilled, enjoy your hosting, do your very best to make sure your guests have a memorable visit and a wonderful time - and never, ever worry about the ridiculous superhost status (your own, or anyone else's). Quite frankly, it's not worth the paper it's written on, and is a source of waaay too much stress and angst for hosts. Just do your thing, and have fun 😉

The subcategories (cleanliness, accuracy, value, location, and communication) are NOT averaged together to get the overall rating. The overall rating is a separate category for which the guest choose a star rating (1-5.) So you can have a perfect 5.0 overall rating but a 4.3 in cleanliness and vice versa.

@Myra7  You wrote "interesting you think they just count the overall rating." It isn't a matter of what Susan thinks. It's how the system works. Overall is a separate rating and the only one counted for Superhost status. That's a fact, not an opinion.
