Referring Hosts and Giving reasons not to be paid

I referred two new hosts and it was not clear to them to follow the link first. Therefore they join and was successful, They called Airbnb to inform them I referred them before the guest left and I was still denied payment of referring those guests. Airbnb states before guests leave. I don’t understand if the hosts confirmed it over the phone why would I still be denied my referral host pay?
