Renting on Airbnb resulting in commercial property status affecting tax when you sell?
Hi there,
This is my first time using this so I hope I'm doing it correctly apologies if not.
I host on Airbnb in Dublin and was told by someone recently that if I go to sell my house the Revenue will treat it like a commercial property and I will have to pay tax accordingly.
Can anyone provide any certainty on this as I wont host again until I know!
Only your tax office can give a difinitive answer, talk to them ,they don't bite. It use to be:
When you sell any property that is not your main residence, the uplift in value will be subject to capital gains tax. Therefore even if you do not host on airbnb its still subject to capital gains tax when sold.
