I have been putting clean linens on the beds after every guest. However, I hired a new cleaning person who said most guests prefer to see the clean sheets and pillowcases folded on the bed for them to put on themselves so that they know they are clean. That is fine by me, but the bedrooms in our house are very small, and putting sheets on the beds requires a lot of effort--jockeying around the beds, moving them. Just wondering what others' opinions are on this?
I searched the community postings for this, but cannot find anything on this subject.
Thanks.
As a guest, I would loathe this idea. Why do I want to do housework on vacation? Additionally, this may read as ableist. A lot of disabled travelers can’t bend down or pull things. When I arrive, I want to jump into a shower and jump into bed, period.
@Bruce-And-Patty0 where is this person cleaning that she found guests like that? I have never heard of guests that want to make their own beds. Of course the sheets will be clean and believe me, people can make the difference between clean and dirty sheets easily whether the bed is made or not. This is a very bad idea, it only sounds like she wants to make things easier for herself.
As a guest, I would always assume all bedding is clean unless proven otherwise. I don't need to make the bed myself to convinced that it is clean. Also, if you go with this method, you are probably going to have to iron your sheets because a lump of wrinkly sheets on the bed is not very attractive, folded or not.
@Ana1136 , @Marjorie122 , @Emilia42 , @Emiel1 -- Thanks very much for your responses and input. I share your opinions. Since my husband are new to hosting, I thought I would ask. I'm glad I did!
@Bruce-And-Patty0 Yes, definitely make the beds, what a strange idea your maid has.
If I have guests who stay for a week or more, I give them clean bedding after a week (if they're staying for 10 days, I'll offer them clean bedding at the halfway point), but I always ask if they want me to change it out or if they'd prefer to. So far, they've always said they'll do it themselves. But at that point, they're settled in and it's their private space.
@Sarah977 That is a very good idea.
Because our primary residence is a 50-minute drive from the rental, we leave an extra set of clean sheets for guests in case they would like to change them. So far, no one has done that.
@Bruce-And-Patty0 If the photos of your listing show beds that are already made then that is what has to be done. I certainly would not want to arrive at a place after a long journey and then find that I had to make the bed - I would be livid. Your place looks lovely and you have good reviews so don't spoil it for the sake of a lazy cleaner.
Thank you all for your input. You have confirmed what I was thinking. I have spoken with my cleaner, who said she was more than happy to put the laundered sheets on the beds. I didn't ask, but perhaps she cleans for others who do not list through Airbnb and have requested that sheets instead be folded and placed on top of the beds for guests to put on the beds themselves. I know it sounded like she is lazy and I feel bad that it looked that way, but she really is not lazy at all. She is an excellent cleaner.
And like all of you, I would NOT want to have to put sheets on the bed after having traveled, no matter the distance.
