Short Term rental regulations and licence in Prince George's County MD

Has anyone out there in my county applied for the license? It seems very complicated. Any helpful hints?

Thanks so much.

Hi there AmanieO, this looks like a very time consuming process. Tomorrow I will contact the county and see if they will send me the application packet because trying to do this online has not worked. I’ll keep you posted.

Once you do it, do you mind sharing how long the process takes?  I'm trying to wait until the last minute so that the first few months in 2019 won't count towards our 180 day max for the year.  I think that's really unreasonable.  Would like to know if there is any way we could possibly challenge this.

Hi Georgina, I've kind of been in limbo for the last two months. First the licensing process seemed overwhelming, but I somehow managed to get through it. I just recently got back on with Airbnb and am operating with a temporary license which okay to do, however I am not getting any inquiries, none! I have no idea how much longer the permanent license will take, but I do know that there is no chance at all of challenging this. Best of luck to you from the other side of Route One!

Hi @Marisa182 , I’m a new host and I was stopped in my track as to how to get this short-term lease license in PG county. The link to the website application was practically none-existent! Zero info given and zero options on the website. Pls how were you even able to apply for the temporary license? Did you go to their office in person? Did you call, if so, pls what number did you call? Did they send you the paper application? I know I’m asking too many questions, but any help will be greatly appreciated. Thnx!

Hello @Rufina6

First, welcome to the world of hosting! When I applied for my rental license Prince George's County licensing department was transitioning the permit department to, what I think is a private agency, Momentum. It was a long and very frustrating process that I would not want to go through again. But, I think it will be much easier for you. Try going to Momentum Information, then Momentum Portal, and on to Short-Term application Portal. If you don't have any luck, let me know. Best of luck. Mari

Thank you so much Mari! I really appreciate your detailed response. I’ll follow your directions. Airbnb needs to update that in their end. It drove me crazy cos they put the wrong link. I wonder how they can be notified about that change so other new hosts don’t have to go through that. I’ll keep you posted. Thnx again!

Thnx for the link Mari! You’re such a great help!

Unfortunately, as Marisa has pointed out, there is no chance at all of challenging this.  I am behind the eight ball on this process.  I have guest scheduled and it appears that I may have to cancel the request that I have accepted if I do not meet the April  deadline.  Wish me luck!

Hello Prince George's County Hosts,

It's time to renew my rental license through Momentum, and having a very difficult time doing so. No help at all from the county. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem or can offer some help. I am in the 20782 zip code and would love to connect with other hosts. Many thanks.
