@JayandKathy0 Here's a link that says what taxes are being collected in Colorado:

https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/653/in-what-areas-is-occupancy-tax-collection-and-remittance-by-...

You should see the tax amount collected in your Transaction History > Gross Earnings.

You can now find the phone number to contact Airbnb by going to Help on your Dashboard.  Then click on Visit Help Center.  There will be various help topics, but at the bottom of the page there is a Contact Us button.  There you will find options such as request a phone call, email to Airbnb as well as phone numbers to call yourself.

If you are using Airbnb's app, tap on your profile icon then go down the page to Get Help.  You will see the same results there.

Hope this helps!

Airbnb receintly announced starting yesterday they would collect the 3% guest tax for Quintana Roo.  The problem is they will not report the amount via individual property and just as a lump sum.  I had my accountant check on this and he says that we must continue to pay the tax as we always have to the mexican goverment with my Mexican SAT (IRS equivilent) numbers.  Now what???

I have tried to find a number to call AirBnb with no luck anyne one have a number fo them?

@Kyra12 Typically when Airbnb starts collecting Occupancy taxes from guests, it is done with an agreement with the local tax authority so if the authorities in Quintana Roo require individual reporting, that's what Airbnb will do.  Most likely the Quintana Roo authorities have agreed to receive a lump sum, so I would advise that you ask your accountant to double check.  He or she may not be aware of the agreement Airbnb has reached with the local tax authority.

By the way, I'm travelling to Cancun tomorrow and will visit Isla Mujeres on Wednesday!  I see the weather forecast for the entire 7 days I'm there calls for rain!  Boo!

My accountant went to the offices today in Cancun and they know nothing about it.  If someone at Airbnb has information on it I would love to know

We have had rain on and off for the last 4 days. But it is not cold still in the 80s

@Kyra12 By all means keep trying to contact Airbnb, but I wouldn't worry about it since Airbnb is collecting the taxes from the guests, not you, so if there is a problem, it would be Airbnb that would need to answer.  In other words, you will not be getting any money from the guests to then send to the taxing authority.  Airbnb is getting the money and is the one responsible for paying.

Airbnb just started collecting Transient Occupany Taxes for my county effective October 1.  Airbnb will be making the payment in a lump sum for all hosts in the county....no individual reporting.  This makes sense to me since I now have no responsibility for reporting since I do not receive the taxes from the guests.  Airbnb does.  When Airbnb makes these arrangements, it is with the higher management of the taxing authority.  I'm not surprised that your accountant got someone who didn't know anything about it. (This is often the case; lower level employees are often in the dark.)  He needs to talk to someone higher up in the management ladder.

The latest phone number I have for support in Mexico is +52 55 41 70 43 33. Please let me know what Airbnb tells you!

I'm looking forward to my trip!  Not worried at all about being cold....I'm worried about being too hot especially with the humidity!

Going snorkeling on the way to Isla Mujeres.  Woohoo!

@Clare0 don't be so positive that since Airbnb is collecting the tax, the property owner is off the hook. I'm also using another website that collects taxes and for 2 years in a row, they have failed to pay those taxes and I have been billed personally as the host. I joined Aribnb specifically because I know for a fact that my city has a deal with them, my short term rental office has actually told me to not report Airbnb rentals on my yearly tax form, only those rentals from other companies who have not registered with the city. I only stay with the first website because it provides me with more clients. I have raised my prices there to help defray the cost of having to pay the tax charges myself.

@Donna240 Wow, I can't imagine a company collecting occupancy taxes not paying them to the appropriate taxing authority.   I've never heard of an instance where Airbnb collected the occupancy tax from a guest and not paid it.

In my area, I still report the gross proceeds to my local tax collector each month so that they can confirm they were paid by Airbnb for the occupany tax due.

If there were any problems with non-payment by Airbnb, I would be notified right away, not two years later.

@Clare0 It was not Airbnb, it was the other company. I fought with them over the issue for 2 years before going elsewhere. I mentioned that situation so you would understand that the property owner is reponsible for any unpaid tax, no matter who collects it. If it's not paid the city government goes after the registered host. I stated that I joined Airbnb because they DO pay the tax they collect for hosts.

@Donna240 Yes, I got that.  I was just expressing my surprise that the "other company" collected the tax but didn't pay it and that there was no safe guard for you not being aware that the taxes weren't being paid.  It must have come as quite a surprise for you to be held liable after two years.

And yes, I am quite aware that ultimately it is the host that is responsible for ensuring that the taxes are paid.

Ah, yes, I get you now. I was notified by the city the first year only. At the time taxes were due the 2nd year, I went to the tax collector the final day the payment was due and they confirmed that no taxes had been paid on my behalf. Late fees and penalties were added the first year, so I paid the tax then and there to avoid further cost.

Since the company still provides the bulk of my guests I just raised my prices to cover myself. It's hard to walk away from 30 five star reviews. I know that sounds like a small number to many hosts, but I worked hard to get those.
