The commisson which is taken out by Air B & B

The commisson which is taken out by Air B & B

Hi all,   I have just had an enquiry from someone who wishes to stay for five nights in December - 3 people in total.

Has anyone got a clue how to work out the commission which is taken out by Air B & B please ?   Is the commission and Service Fee the same thing ?

The price which he has been quoted by Air B & B is different from my listed price.   I think I will have to e-mail him and ask him straight out what the fee is which he has been quoted on the Air B & B form.    But then how do I deduct the fee which Air B & B will take before paying me out ?

Am I the only one who is confused by this endless conundrum ?

Any help would be very gratefully received, thank you in advance.

Cheers,  Lisette

@Lisette5 I want to encourage you to read the articles on the ABB website about how charges are calculated.  It will answer everything for you for this topic as well as any other questions you may have about bookings, charges, payouts, etc.   The process is not confusing at all.  The guests sees a listing price, they decide on the number of nights, when they send in a request the ABB system automaticallys adds up your nightly rate, adds a cleaning fee if you have one, adds THEIR service fee, and charges the guests accordingly.  The reason you get  paid a different amount at the PAYOUT time, for the simple fact that ABB charges you (as host) a fee as well.  So the guests sees one total, and you see a different one.  ABB collects a service fee from the guest and a host fee from each booking.  But one thing is for sure, everyone gets a detailed breakdown of the exact charges BEFORE a booking is accepted an confirmed.  IF you log into your account and click on this request, you will see this too.  Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

And no the word commission is never used with Airbnb.  Its all just SERVICE fees and HOST fees.   🙂

FYI - all monies necessary for their stay is paid directly to ABB.  Keep that in mind.

I've been a little confused by the sometimes slightly differing advertised price for our listing, but the fee air bnb takes out is so minor that I have no concern whatsoever about it, I don't even think about it, the money just goes in when the person checks in &, boom, all over!  I'm interested to find out that they also take a fee off the guest, which I didn't know...

Hi Chaquita,

Many thanks for taking the time to reply to my conundrum.   I received several amounts regarding the fees to be charged,  relating to this enquiry, and found that the quote to the holiday maker was $60 less than it should have been and that was not counting the commission, or service fee.   I e-mailed the chap to let him know that I have to make further enquiries as I was confused about the pricing.   I find it very time consuming trying to find answers on the Air B&B website and tend to go round and round in circles.   There is no phone number and no icon which says "contact us".   I can understand why, as there are many confused people on this community forum who all seem to be having one problem or another.

I have never had a booking from this particular website.    I have tried to work out the fees and charges and none of them add up to the correct amount, i.e. the amount which I have advertised on the site.   Plus they charge the holiday maker a fee as well, and I am not sure if this is included.

Thanks so much again Chaquita - I wish you were my next door neighbour so I could come in and watch you do the number crunching and explain to me how they come up with these quotes !!

Cheers,

Lisette
